Sunny Leone is slowly and steadily gaining ground in the film industry playing lead roles in films like Leela, Beimaan Love and Mastizaade. And now the actress has been signed to play the protagonist in One Night Stand. The film will be helmed by director Anthony D’Souza’s wife, Jasmine. The director-to-be has been involved with D’Souza for projects like Blue as a writer and creative director. She has also modelled for some endorsements like Breeze, Sunsilk, Nescafe among others and was also a television host (Josh, Food Food).
“But I was always more interested to be behind the camera, rather than in front of it, as it’s more challenging and interesting. The concept of One Night Stand on gender inequality where sex is concerned was mine, but it has been written by Bhavani Iyer (Black, Guzarish, Lootera). Bhavani was the right choice because I didn’t want the film to become sleazy. It’s a story that needs to be told and sex need not be highlighted,” said D’Souza.
Choosing Sunny was an easy choice, according to D’Souza. “If you know the real Sunny, you will know how different she is from how she is portrayed on screen, and I think that was the gem of the story. People really don’t know who Sunny is personally. Just because of having been a porn star, people are very biased towards everything she does. In reality she is a perfect person, a perfect wife. Does sex that defines a person, and not what they do otherwise? If a woman is involved in a one night stand, she is labelled as a bad person, but if a man does the same, he is a stud.” When asked about Sunny’s role in the film and her response to it, Jasmine narrated, “Sunny was very excited when she read the script and since it was from a woman’s point of view, she knew it would be something sensitive. I would describe her character as an independent woman of today who is smart, beautiful knows what she wants and balances all aspects of her life beautifully,” she said.
The other characters are still being cast and hopefully the film will go on the floors this December. “There are certain portions which are based abroad, but a majority of the film happens in and around Mumbai.”
The film will be produced by Tutu Sharma and Sultan Khan who is presently involved with Welcome Back.
